In Casting Sacred Space, author Ivo Dominguez considers the most basic of magical practices, and presents a well-thought out collection of variants to that practice. The author has a strong background in Wicca, serving as an Elder on The Assembly of the Sacred Wheel, but his knowledge and experience clearly expand well beyond this label. In fact the author's inclusiveness of varied magical practices and techniques puts this book in a category that is naturally applicable to practitioners of all stripes.
This book is centered on the most basic concept, and typically the starting point to all ritual Magick, the circle. The author discusses the casting a circle as a means for balancing and centering, raising energy, invoking transcendence, and creating protection. Additionally various spiritual traditions and cultures are covered thereby stressing the inclusiveness of this work.
Having set the basic foundation, the author then presents a philosophical discussion of the reasons for creating sacred space, using magical correspondences to design and outline methods for new and pointed circle castings. As an example of the singular creativity employed by the book we can look to the Modality Circle Casting. The basis of this unique casting is the zodiacal wheel around the perimeter of the circle and specifically the placement of the three modalities: Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable. Using the subdivisions of these three modalities on the circle, the author presents several variations on typical quarter castings with these specific modal energies.
Further to this sample the book contains many more circle castings that use other means to achieve specific results. There are castings intended specifically to raise vortices of energy, castings for creating triangular space intended for utter stillness and silence, and further castings for spirit vision, rising on the planes, and general personal growth.
This work presents an exceptional balance between standard practices for opening circles and unique conceptual changes to those practices. Creating Sacred Space is recommended as an adjunct to any practitioner regardless of skill level or background, offering advice on how to modify and apply esoteric knowledge to preexisting rituals to achieve specific magical results.
